Using Software Factory in Slack

Connect your Slack account to Software Factory to chat with the Software Factory agent without leaving Slack. Once connected, you can:

• @mention the bot in a channel to ask questions or kick off work in a thread.
• Send the bot a direct message for a private conversation.
• Attach files to your messages — the bot uploads supported files to your project so the agent can use them.
• Jump back into the app with the "Open in Software Factory" links the bot includes in its replies.

The bot works against one project at a time — your Connected Project — which you pick in your account settings.

• You need a Software Factory account and membership in at least one organization with at least one project.
• You need a Slack account in your team's Slack workspace.
• Your Slack workspace may require an admin to approve new apps. If the connection flow tells you approval is needed, ask your Slack workspace admin to approve the Software Factory app.

Each person connects their own Slack account — there is no shared, organization-wide connection.

1. In Software Factory, open Settings → Connections → Accounts.
2. In the Slack Account card, click Connect to Slack.
3. You are taken to Slack's authorization screen. Review the requested permissions and click Allow. (The first person to connect in a workspace also installs the Software Factory bot into that workspace — this happens automatically.)
4. You land on the Connect Slack confirmation page, which shows the Slack workspace, your Slack account, and your Software Factory account and email. Check that both identities are yours, then click Connect.
5. You are returned to your settings with your Slack account connected.

> One organization at a time: your Slack account can be connected to only one Software Factory organization at a time. If it is already connected elsewhere, the confirmation page warns you that connecting here will disconnect it there.

After connecting, the Slack Account card in Settings → Connections → Accounts shows your bot preferences:

• Connected Project — the project the bot operates on. The bot cannot switch projects from inside Slack; change it here.
• Model — the AI model used for your Slack conversations. Leave it on Auto for the recommended model, or pick a specific one.

Click Save Preferences to apply. If you started the connection from a project page, that project is preselected for you.

Until you pick a Connected Project, the bot replies to your messages with a reminder to configure one.

1. Invite the bot to a channel (type /invite and select the Software Factory app, or mention it and accept Slack's prompt to add it).
2. @mention the bot with your question or request.
3. The bot replies in a thread. Continue the conversation by mentioning it again in the same thread.

Open the Software Factory app from your Slack sidebar and send it a message — no @mention needed. DM conversations are private to you.

Attach files to your message and the bot uploads the supported ones to your Connected Project for the agent to use. Unsupported file types are skipped, and the bot tells you which ones. A message must contain text or at least one supported file.

Type settings (just the word, no slash) in a conversation with the bot and it replies with your current Connected Project and where to change it.

• One conversation per thread. Each Slack thread (or DM conversation) is its own agent session with its own context.
• Threads belong to whoever started them. If someone else started a thread with the bot, mention the bot in a new thread to start your own conversation.
• Changing your Connected Project resets threads. If you switch your Connected Project (or your connection changes organization), the bot starts a fresh conversation the next time you message it in an existing thread and lets you know why.
• Replies can take a moment. The bot acknowledges your message right away and posts the full answer when the agent finishes.

In Settings → Connections → Accounts, open the Slack Account card and click Unlink Slack Account. The bot stops responding to you until you connect again. Leaving an organization also removes your Slack connection automatically.
